You Are Here....

So, just got done listening to Coach's post-game presser.

He doesn't doubt our effort.  He says that everyone we had was giving what they had.

This is just where we are as a program, in terms of numbers, in terms of injury and in terms of attrition.

And where we are is not very good.  He used the word "threadbare," especially on the O-Line and in the defensive backfield.

He was, in a way, optimistic.  He thinks we are not very far from having a good defense.  (And the defense did do as well as could be expected today).  He says we are going to turn it around, and it "won't take as long as it might have looked today."

And it did look like it might take a long time today.  It was a very long day to be a Falcon fan.  We were beaten in every aspect of the game, up and down the field.

On offense, we started without Willie Geter and Cooper, and then lost Bojicic at Center, which left us with two converted d-lineman and a true freshmen on the line.  Kent certainly exposed that, as BG could not run block or pass block.  We become one-dimensional, and Kent exploited that ruthlessly.  Coach said that Schilz could not set his feet on many of his throws all year.  He also started to bring his eyes down under pressure, which Coach says QBs do at any level when they get hit enough.

When he did have time, people were not open upfield, and there was nowhere to go with the ball.  Finally, he was so used to feeling pressure that he began to feel "phantom pressure."  Remember, of course, that Schilz is a freshmen.  Coach left him in so he could work through it and become a better QB for the future.

On defense, they actually played pretty well, but let the ball get over their head several times.  In addition to being down Truss and Lorenzi, Keith Morgan also went down during the game, which brought even more young players into the game.

Finally, with the exception of the Boo Boo Gates TD return, we were pretty poor.  We had a couple lousy kickoff returns, a couple bad punts, a missed XP and gave up a first down on a fake punt.

In general, Coach said we were at times "overwhelmed" out there.  Certainly hard to argue with that.

More tomorrow.
