International Centre for Special Teams Research

So, the ICSTR has issued its report for this week.

For the third straight week, BG was in negative territory and was significantly beaten by the opposition.  The final result was BG -1 and OU+6.  Check out the last three points on this chart, and compare them to the week leading up to it since the CMU game last year.

I was candidly surprised that BG was as good as that, because it seemed like it was a lot worse.  We gave up a bad kickoff return and a really bad punt return, had four lousy kickoff returns, muffed an extra pointand .  On the positive, Wright buried two touchbacks and a third kickoff only returned to the 16, we converted two 2-point conversions (which count as +1, unlike a kicked PAT), and put punts inside the OU 20 twice.  So I guess we get saved a little.

OU had a huge game punting, and dominated the kickoff game as well.  They had two returns set up TDs as well.

So, as the rest of BG's game has faltered starting with the UM game, so have special teams.
