Clawson Presser
Coach Clawson sat down with the media today. I listened to, so you don't have to.
He noted that we have a young team and this is their first six-day game prep, so it is a little tough and it sounded like maybe a little bit of a struggle so far. But that's reading between the lines.
He talked about trying to fix the mistakes from Morgan State, including keeping the QB in a cage (2 lineman on both sides), which will be important with the Cowboys QB who can run effectively. He had high praise for the Wyoming offense and said they were very good at getting players open in space and they have good playmakers. He had good things about their true FR QB. He said their defense was lit up by Weber State but then improved against Texas State. (He didn't say this, but this could be based on level of competition as well).
He said that Wyoming's offense look like Brandon's early offenses at BG and a lot like what Missouri ran under Christensen when he was there. He said that BG and Missouri used to do staff visits a lot.
Said he met Brandon once at a coaching conference and he was professional and helpful.
Get this---this is amazing---only 8 players are on the Falcon roster who signed and played for Brandon. That is incredible.
The injury report:
- Scott Lewis is practicing and could go, though they hope they won't need him.
- Adrien Spencer is also available and practicing but they hope he can rest one more week.
- Only player who is out is Jerry Phillips who "hurt his leg and can't kick."
He talked about the offensive line set up with Bojicic at LT and Robinson at C. This has been a seamless transition because both of them are smart players, but when Bryant is 100% they expect him to start again at LT.
There was a question about whether it hurt a team from the West to play an early game in an earlier time zone. (Some Falcon fans believe the noon start is designed to throw the Pokes off their game). This prompted a long dissertation from the coach. We are playing at noon so as not to interfere with a campus event, but as far as he is concerned, we would play at 10 AM. We play at night for crowds and for students, but he much prefers to play very early.
He talked about Boo Boo Gates maturing and becoming a better player. He also said Keith Morgan has been more productive this year with fewer snaps than he was last year with more snaps.
Finally, he lapsed into admitted Coachspeak--it would be great to be 3-0, but he wants to see us play at a high level as much as he wants to see us win. It is about the process...ohhhh, you know the rest.
