Five More Football Verbals

We're in the dead period now, so we should start to hear less recruiting news.  Right now, I've got five more players, which gets us to 15...that's 100% unofficial because the school doesn't comment on these, and sometimes there's a guy out there who didn't hook in on social media.

Caden Carter

Caden is a 6'2" and 217 pound LB from Walsh Jesuit, in the Cleveland area. He has no stars from 247, but offers from EMU, Akron, Cornell, Navy, Ohio, Toledo, WMU and Youngstown State.

His Father is Delone Carter, who was 2005 Ohio Mr. Football, went to Syracuse, and played for Indy and Jacksonville in the NFL at RB.

He certainly had a productive junior year:

  • 108.5 tackles
  • 10 Tackles for loss
  • 3 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles
  • 3 pass break ups
  • 1 interception

He was third-team Division II All-Ohio.

Bryce Brewster

Bryce is a 6'3" and 245 pound DL from Cincinnati Taft. Also unranked, he had offers from App. State, Buffalo, Kent, Miami, Ohio, Temple, Toledo, UMass.

Serious productivity here:

  • CMAC DEFENSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR🦍
  • 1st Team ALL CONFERENCE
  • 2nd Team all STATE
  • 2nd TEAM all city
  • Regional CHAMPS🏆
  • STATE Semi Final Contender
  • 20 Sacks 🚨
  • 130 Tackles
  • 61Solo
  • 69 Assists
  • 24 TFL
Vance Diepenbrock

Vance is a long-snapper.  Maybe not the most exciting position on the field, but the one guy who can lose you a game in one second. He attends Bishop Dwenger High School, Fort Wayne and was in the Rubio Top 12.

Jordan Tarver

He's a 6'1" and 175 pound CB from Auburndale HS in FL. While unranked, he had a number of high-quality offers...Memphis, MSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UNLV, WVU, and a handful of FCS offers.

Here is his HS Coach: “Number one he has the frame. He has the height and all that stuff (and) the speed to play at the next level. He has long arms. His strength has improved. And then his overall technique, his ball skills have improved. He’s extremely talented."

On top of that, he runs a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and a 10.7 in the 100 meters, as he also on the track team.

He's a great article about how he used football to work through losing both of his parents.  His father died during spring practice a couple years ago.

Derron Grey, Jr

Derron is a 6'4" and 210 pounds TE from Africentric HS in Columbus, OH.  Unranked, he has offers from EMU, WMU, App. State, UB, EKU, KSU, Kentucky, Marshall, Miami, Temple, USF and WKU.

He had 1,000 yards on 40 receptions last season, which might be appealing.  He was second-team All-state, Division V.

Gentlemen....welcome to the Falcons.

Two Additional '26 Verbals for BG....

Both were highly-recruited players.

First, we have S Julian Holt, who is 6'1" and 190 pounds, and played at Edward White HS in Jacksonville.  That's the same HS Jaison Patterson went to--in fact, he and Holt are cousins.

He is a 3-star recruit with offers from App. State, Arkansas State, CMU, Delaware, Georgia State, Louisville, Mercer, ODU, Tulane, Wake Forest and WKU.

This story lists him as a physical presence and ball hawk in the backfield, something you can always use from your safety.

(Ed White was an astronaut, the first American to walk in space, and died in the Apollo 1 accident.  There are 8 schools named after him, in total.)

The other is Kore Thomas, 6'1" and 275-pound DL, from the First Baptist Academy in Dallas.  He is unranked, but had offers from Arizona State, Arkansas State, Houston, K-State, Nevada, New Mexico, North Texas, Toledo and Tulane.  No idea about the ranking, but it is a good sign when you are getting a player that other teams wanted.

They have won 2 straight state titles in the Texas Private/Parochial Division.  He is a two-time All-State player and was the District Defensive MVP last year. He was offered by BG under the previous regime.

As a Junior, he had 86 tackles, 24 for loss, and 9.5 sacks.

Julian and Kore, welcome to the Falcons.

BG Gains Five Football Commits

Recruiting for '26 continues and BG has guys visiting every weekend.  Here are five recent commits...we welcome them all to the families.

Elijah Durham Smit

is from the Buckeye State, Pickerington North.  He's a 3-star EDGE with offers from Akron, BSU, UB, EKU, EMU, Gardner-Webb, Kent, Ohio, ODU, Toledo, UMass.

He's 6'3" and 240 pounds. He was 3rd-team All-State for D1 last year.

Deshon Jenkins

is a RB from Bishop Verot, in Fort Myers.  He had offers from EMU, Elon, FIU, Florida A&M, North Dakota, Toledo and WVU.

He's 5'10 and 225. He is a consistently productive runner for a very high-scoring offense.  I understand that even without ratings, the staff thinks BG landed a key piece in DeShon.

Maddox Hunstad

The graphic he used to announce his commitment says he is playing a new position at BG..."Beachside TE."  We've had strong side, weak side, offside, fieldside, boundaryside....but this is our first Beachside TE.

OK.  He's from Beachside, FL, which is a little south of Jacksonville and also not especially near the beach.  But Beachadjancent HS doesn't work.

He's 6'5" and 205 pounds and appears to be the TE/WR type.

He had 6 offers, but BG was the only reported D1 offer.  Tall target in the passing game, catching 50 passes for 846 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024. Also averaged double-figure scoring in consecutive seasons in basketball.

Cedarius Christian

is a CB 6'2" 170lb from Lake Wales, FL, which is in the Lakeland/Winter Haven area and is near Lake Wales.  He is unranked star-wise. He had offers from Duquesne, Marshall, Memphis, South Dakota and UMass.

Isaiah Hayward

is a local, playing WR for Whitmer.   He's 6'1" and 170.  Offers from CMU, KSU, Miami, UT and Wayne State. He was a first-team All-Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division selection. This season Hayward caught 34 passes for 736 yards (21.6 average) and 11 touchdowns.

Football Nabs Verbal

Fresh from Perry in Stark County, a football hotbed, is Trent Taylor.

Trent is a 3-star recruit, who had offers from UT, UA, App State, UB, ECU, EMU, JMU, Kent and Miami.  He's 6'5" and 230 pounds and was all-Ohio on the DLine (2nd team), where he generated some real numbers.

He also played TE, catching a couple of TD passes.

The odd thing is that he is listed on his twitter feed as TE/DL and 247 lists him as a TE.  Now, BG has recent evidence of taking an all-star defender and moving him to TE...and today he's playing for the Browns.

So, maybe TE it is.

Welcome to the Falcons, Trent.

BG Football Nabs Two Three-Star Verbals.

BG has 2 '26 verbals, both 3-star ranked

First, BG has the first QB of the Eddie George era.  This guy is from the class of 26 and certainly looks like he can help us.

His name is Jarin Mock and he is from Pickerington North.  He first began getting college offers in 2024.  He committed to Wisconsin that year.  Then, Wisconsin sacks their OC and QB Coach (Phil Longo) and brought in a couple guys who are looking to have a running QB offense.  The incumbents all left.  Mock says they pulled his offer.

Prior to that, he had offers from Marshall, Wisconsin, Penn State and CMU.  Once he was recruiting again, BG was on him 7 days later with the first offer.  (January 21).  This was actually while Loeffler was still here.  Following that was Purdue, Liberty, Kent, Coastal Carolina, WKU, UB, UA, Charlotte and Middle Tennessee. He took official visits to BG and Charlotte and picked the Falcons.

He's 6'3" and 190 and listed as a pocket passer.  FWIW, this article quotes his HS coach as saying he is a dual-threat QB...and that he lets him call his own audibles.

247 lists him as a 3-star recruit and the #55 QB in the country. Mock completed 155 of 252 passes (61.5%) for 2,603 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior.  He started HS in Reynoldsburg and transferred before his junior year.

He was second-team Division I all-District.

The other is OT Travis Robertson, a 6'7" and 270-pound rising HS senior from West Bloomfield, MI.  He's a 3-star, and the #137 OT in the country according to 247.  He has offers from Colorado, WMU, EMU, Kent, UK, Louisville, UT, and UMass.

He was second-team all-state last year.  He was also second-team Detroit metro North.

Welcome to the Falcons, Jarin and Travis.
