Brandon Back as Head Coach

So, it must be alumni day in the Falcon Nation.  Our former OC and Coach, Gregg Brandon, is re-entering the head coaching world.  He has been hired at the Colorado School of Mines, where he replaces Bob Stitt, who has moved onto Montana.

The interesting thing is that, as you see above, Brandon made his bones as an offensive coach...and I think most Falcon fans think he was a pretty good OC but not a very good head coach.

In offensive coaching circles, Stitt is considered a cult figure,  so Brandon is going to be tested by a very high bar.  Furthermore, the Colorado School of Mines only has one major--engineering--and Stitt told an audience that his average ACT score was 29 out of 36, so based on his time at BG, Brandon may find the recruiting hurdles as high as the offensive hurdles.

The Orediggers are a DII team.  They were 10-2 last year, made the NCAA playoffs, and were #4 in total offense, #2 in passing offense and #T17 in scoring offense.  It will be interesting to see how this all pans out for Coach Brandon, who most recently was OC at New Mexico State.
