George Presser
He had nothing very interesting to say. Cliff Copse had asked a couple of weeks ago why we weren't passing, and George said it was because we couldn't protect. Cliff followed up to ask what had changed with the offensive line to allow us to pass more, which was cheeky.
Anyway, his ultimate point was that we can't decide we have made it. This will be interesting. Even with Loeffler, we had terrible teams (Jinks, bad) who would win one game, have no reason whatsoever to be overconfident, and then blow a tire next time out,
Can BG keep improving while winning... we'll see.
The biggest news of the week came from this. (He was not asked about it Monday).
Coach George brought the team over in shifts to see his Heisman Trophy. Nice thrill for the boys. This picture, posted by BG football...raced across the country on account of the...uh...modest home where Coach George and the Heisman Trophy reside.
It was...first and before anything else, interpreted as a lack of commitment to the BG program. Pat Forde has a saying that sports make smart people dumb. I know it does to me sometimes. The fact is, we've got decades without having a coach who planned on staying here...maybe Doyt Perry...I have no idea what his mindset was, but he did turn the Big 10 down and eventually lived out his life in BG.
The others...Clawson, Meyer, Babers, Jinks, Loeffler...they all saw it as a stepping stone. And there's nothing wrong with that. Some had families and might have lived in a bigger house, but none of them bought that house as a long-term investment at BG. Meyer had a big house... bye-bye.
I believe Eddie George is committed to Bowling Green, but I suspect he doesn't plan to live here forever.
Also, with the way coaches are fired today, I don't blame a coach for being careful. Some of you wanted George fired LAST YEAR.
For good reason, I suspect that he views this as his forever home. And I don't care at all.
