Orr Presser
Coach Orr did a 14 minute presser yesterday. The man has many talents, one of which is talking for 14 minutes without saying anything noteworthy. He's a Hall of Famer in that regard.
He said two things that were interesting.
First, he talked about the troubles are big men are having scoring. He says that we certainly count on the bigs to score, and that they aren't because they aren't getting the ball in the right position. He said they need to get into better position, and then the outside players need to do a better job of getting the ball into the players with both feet in the key. Otherwise, they have to work too hard to get the shot off. It will be interesting to watch the Austin Peay game and see how this plays out.
Coach is most enthusiastic about our defense. He said we are playing most man to man, and that he thinks that is our best defense right now. As I said in the preview, for all the talk, BG's defense was only average last year in our conference, and it needs to be really good. Perhaps the man has opened that up for us.
Just a little math, BG was 11th in the MAC last year, allowing 114 3s (MAC games only, 37%, 10th in MAC). If BG had allowed just one fewer 3 per game, then BG would have moved from 8th to about 5th in points allowed per game.
