Falcon Men's Hoops----D-FENSE and Point Guard
One thing I didn't want to let go from the exhibition was the issue of defense. I've said numerous times here that we start every year saying we want to be able to play man and zone, and then we morph relatively quickly into a team that just plays zone.
We're saying that again. It does seem like we are putting a little more emphasis behind it. Coach says it has been a priority all summer and that we can't "get to the next level if we are so one-dimensional."
I agree with this. We have to improve defensively to reach the next level, which means being in the conversations with Kent, Akron and Miami when the season ends. We have been killed from outside, and we need to be able to play both kinds of defense effectively. It just makes us harder to beat.
The other issue was PG. I had assumed that Anthony Henderson would be the backup PG, based on some things that were said last spring. However, for this year, it appears that Dee Brown will back up at PG, with the long-term plan being to use Jehvon Clarke there. Clarke did play some PG against Tiffin, but they don't want to put the pressure of playing the point on him during his freshman year. Crawford can typically play big minutes and Brown has handled the point before.
