Clawson Presser---Crush or Loaf Edition, you choose
I watch the weekly presser, so you don't have to. But you could. Really. They are on Youtube.
Coach was unstinting in his criticism of the "collective" team at OU on Saturday.
He said it was our first "non-competitive" MAC game since he was here. "Not a good day for our program."
We played with "little emotion." Our energy was "terrible."
"We only get 12 opportunities a year to play football. We completely wasted one of them."
This kind of thing "crushes you" as a Coach.
(A personal note. No matter how much losing bothers you as a fan, it bothers the coaches and players 10x more.)
He said we have practiced poorly since the UM game. In that game, we had guys playing hard even through to the end, but that wasn't the case in Athens. In fact, Coach said that on the Wood fumble return, we had four guys not even chase the ball.
Those are called "Loafs" in Falconland. Or maybe "loaves."
The problem is that our program is so shallow that there is no competition for positions. Guys won their jobs without competition, and Coach knows that telling them he is going to make changes is an "empty threat."
Case in point, the Safety position, where Jovon Leacock, who Coach says has the chance to be a good player, came in as a WR and is starting at S.
He said we better fix it this week. Temple is a big physical team with a strong line, good RBs, etc. (Who have also disappointed their Coach recently).
They also have 20 Junior and Senior starters.
Upon questioning, he called out Cam Truss as giving a complete effort the whole way Saturday. He also mentioned Dwayne Woods, Chris Jones, Willie Geter, and Matt Schilz.
Finally, on the injury front, he said Schilz was about 80-85% Saturday and is much closer to 100 this week. Ty Pronty is "wait and see." He made reference to being optimistic about getting Scott Lewis back, but was unclear what to expect.
