OU Game Story
So, my schedule says I should write a game story about yesterday's game.
I guess. This is going to look a little bit different than normal. Usually, I would try to dig into the trends and the stats....but this is going to be a little more impressionistic than that. As for the ugly numbers, I can't do much better than John Wagner did for The Blade.
In fact, looking at the stats could be pretty misleading, because it would show you that OU was in fact outgained by BG. (How many times does the winning team in a football game run 13 plays in the second half?).
Basically, for all the time that mattered Saturday, BG was beaten in every facet of the game. Our offense did not produce, our defense was shredded, and special teams were out-performed. OU picked up 7.7 yards per play. more in the first half, and won the game throwing 14 passes. In fact, they practically won the game on one play, which was a QB option run.
It started badly from the very beginning, when BG failed to capitalize on the early fumble recovery inside the 5. I don't know if that set the tone or not on the field, but it sure felt like it. But, you know, in the end, it is hard to imagine that making a real difference, given everything else that happened.
Basically, everything we don't do was exposed out there on Saturday. I'm just as concern that our WRs are dropping balls because we are supposed to be strong there as I that we are getting blown off the ball on both sides of the line.
Obviously, I'm as disappointed as everyone else is, including the players and the coaching staff. So far, we've had three pretty good games, and then three pretty poor ones. With half the season left, the Falcons are not facing even one unwinnable game, if they play as they are capable.
