NIU LB Attacks Band Member, to sit out BG game

So, the Northern Illinois Huskies were taking the field this week against UT, and #6, Jamaal Bass was apparently pretty whipped up.  There were no Rockets to hit---football players at least--so he did the next best thing and lowered his shoulder into a member of the band leaving the field.

The video above hit the Internet and the mainstream media, and NIU did the right thing before someone else did and suspended him for one game.  Here is what they said:

“After reviewing the tape of last night’s pregame encounter between our team and the University of Toledo’s marching band, and discussing the situation with (NIU Director of Athletics)) Jeff Compher, we have decided to suspend Jamaal for our next game,” coach Dave Doeren said in a statement. “His actions were not representative of the Huskie football program. I met with Jamaal early this morning and he understands that and is extremely remorseful.

“I want to publicly apologize to the Rocket Marching Band and to the University of Toledo. We are embarrassed at what occurred and take full responsibility for the situation. I will do whatever is necessary to ensure that something like this never happens again.”

Jamaal is very remorseful.  I imagine he is.  He looks like a total idiot.  Bass has 51 tackles this year.
