Dysert vs. Schilz

I know that the season has not gone like anyone hoped, and I know that there are people who are concerned about our future at the QB position.  I'd like to supply some thoughts and even some facts...which is alarming on its own.

First, given the situation with the offensive line and the team's inability to run the ball, I am not sure Schilz has had a great chance to show what he could do.

Second, he is a freshman making his first starts.

There was another QB last year who had a tough year on a team that struggled to win.  Right now, he's considered one of the best QBs in the conference as a sophomore.  That guy is named Zac Dysert.  Let's look at the numbers for Dysert's FR year compared to Schilz.

So what do we have here?  Dysert is ranked better on efficiency, but not by a lot.

Their completion %s are very similar, as is their INT%.  Yardage is a little lower for Schilz than Dysert, and the TD% is not as far apart as it looks.  They are also close in yards per game.

Bottom line is that Schilz is having a very similar year to the one Dysert had last year, and I have confidence in him and in our coaches in their ability to bring him around next season.  Obviously he has to keep getting better, but I'm just trying to make the point that you can build on a year like this and be pretty good the very next year.
