Guest Blogging

We're doing some guest Blogging with Bill, who runs a Boston College blog. He asked me some questions about our team, and published them today. Feel free to check out what I said--and look at his blog for more information on the Boston College Eagles.

I asked him some questions, too, and his answers are here:

1. How's Jerry York doing?

Haven't you heard? Jerry York is God. Funny football related story regarding Jerry York that non-BC fans don't know. When Jags (ed note: the new BC Coach) held his very first BC press conference, many in the Athletic Department showed up to support and meet the new coach. As Jags was talking off the cuff and thanking folks for coming he thanked York and then broke out a "Jeez, you guys are in the Frozen Four every year." It's funny 'cause it's true. York has done an outstanding job and really runs a class program. Thanks to BGSU for letting him come back home in 1994.

2. What experience does BC have playing against a spread offense and how did you fare?

We haven't played any spread teams this year. However, in the past few seasons we've faced a variety of offenses with similarities to yours (BYU, WVU, Central Michigan under Kelly). Traditionally we give up a lot of yards but clamp down in the red zone and pick off a few passes. I expect more of the same this weekend.
3. What changes have been implemented by your new coach?

We have the same defensive coordinator, many of the players and some staffers on the defensive side. The changes are negligible. The offense is a different story. The style of play calling, the philosophy, the formations, the blocking. They're all new. And as you can see from the numbers, things are going well.

4. What can we expect to see from BC on defense? Blitzing? Dropping into coverage? Good pressure?

We used a fair amount of blitzing earlier in the season. It wasn't that successful so we've gone away from it the past few games. There will be plenty of dropping into zone coverage. The pressure on the opposing QBs has been terrible. We cannot generate any pass rush. The failure to get to the QB is less about scheme and more about the guys up front. The front four is solid but not quick. Our pass defense will need to play much better to stop Bowling Green.

5. What is your prediction for the game?

I think it will be somewhat of a shoot out with BC winning 38-27.
