Back Home, Falcons Suck Wind against Zips

Not much to say, since I didn't hear it or see it. Here's a couple of troubling passages from the new Sentinel Tribune online edition.

This is, of course, what we feared when we hit the MAC season. We now go to Miami and Kent on the road, two very tough games. A split will be a major accomplishment.

That wasn’t the case Sunday afternoon in Anderson Arena when Akron’s coaching staff decided to spread the floor against Bowling Green for the second half. The move was made to open up dribble penetration for the Zips, who are quicker and more athletic than the Falcons.

The strategy worked as Akron broke open a close game with an 18-1 run over a six-minute span in the second half on the way to a convincing 83-62 victory.

The Falcons proved to be resilient in the first half, coming back to trail 36-35 at the break. During a two-minute stretch early in the game the Falcons turned the ball over on six straight possessions, mainly due to an inability to break Akron’s pressure. The Zips went from two down to eight up during those two minutes.
