Loeffler Presser

Coach's presser this week was pretty good.  You should watch it.  I was surprised at the tone, because after the game on Saturday, Scot was in his "they made one more play than us mode," which is kind of par for the course.  He didn't sound "sick." I think this quote is way more like the way I felt and the way I would expect him to feel. It shouldn't have happened.

He said that for the first time our defense didn't play hard. He said we had many examples of guys not doing their job...Malcolm Johnson slowing down on that go route in the first series...the pic penalty on the Fannin TD in the 2nd Q (I went back and watched, it was an obvious call)...the interception where the WR wasn't where he was supposed to be...should have been a 25 yard gain and a back-breaking play in that situation...

He says we looked at the logo...which means we treated ODU differently than A&M.  We practiced well all week, he said, but didn't come out with focus...like "savages."

"There were some guys who absolutely did not do anything they were coached to."

He said that he won't blame players.  He says it was on him that all of this happened and he will need to get it fixed.  He hopes it is an "unbelievable wake-up call."

The good news.  It happened now and outside the MAC.  Virtually no margin of error for any surprises from here on in.

Ultimately, we see the ultimate question asked:  Loeffler has taken a team from awful to good.  Can he make the next step?  We're close but we are not there.

Last thing...funny.  The ODU Coach told Loeffler after the game that the player who jumped over the center wasn't even supposed to be rushing.

Go ahead.  Be a college coach.

I think he realizes if it doesn't happen with this team, and all the talent on paper, he may not continue as head coach at BG. Bad look in year 6 to have that much enthusiasm for homecoming and lay an egg. When you have the talent but don't win that's coaching.
