"Most Important Game in 20 years at Doyt??"

So, the marketing folks down at BG have been promoting the game saying that the game is the most important game at the Doyt in 20 years.  That would take us back to 1992.  I've checked around a little and no one seems to know what anyone is talking about, but we can relegate the statement to the "marketing rhetoric" category quite quickly.

I know things haven't been great lately, but I think it kind of minimizes our football tradition to talk like that.  It might very well be the most important game Kent has played in 20 years anywhere, but it isn't for BG.

First, BG can't even clinch anything.

Second, there have been at least two games in the last 20 years where the MAC Championship was on the line--the 1994 Fat Punter Game against CMU and the Big Ben MAC Championship game in 2003.  Add in Gameday in 2003, and that's at least 3 games that were bigger than the game Saturday.

Of course, biggest game in the last 9 years doesn't have quite the same ring.

Which is not to say that it is not a big game.  It has been a long time since a game with these implications was played on our field--I mean there was the famous "Pathetic crowd" game--but that game was a bunch of team limping to a sad MAC East title.  This is a no loss team playing a one loss team in what would a huge step to Detroit for the Falcons.

Weather looks great--looking for a huge crowd for our team on Saturday.  We are have waited a long time to play a meaningful game in November and this is it.

You said fat punter again. :-(

I agree, 20 years is a bit of hyperbole, especially with GameDay here in 2003. But these students were still in grade school then, so we'll make this THEIR most important game in their 20 some years. :-)

Pack the Doyt people...there is nothing like it when it is full. Yell loudly and often.

I agree. Those of us who have sat through all those tough days have earned a day where the Doyt is rocking. Been way too long.
