Clawson Presser--Walk On Edition
A couple days late, I finally grabbed enough time to review Coach Clawson's presser for this week. Let's see what he had to say.
In wrapping Tulsa up, he said that we gave up too many big plays. In the backfield, we are allowing guys to get behind us, and that can't happen. We also did not pressure the QB like we would hope to but our tackling was much improved. On offense, he said that we need to eliminate turnovers and penalties and we will be OK.
He had a lot of good things to say about Marshall. Notably, he said that their QB Brian Anderson has really raised his game. You kind of had the feeling he had because he beat our Willy Korn, a hotshot transfer. His numbers against WVU were really good. Also, they have TE Lee Smith who Coach said will be the best TE we will play this year.
The big news was that Jordan Roussos was moved to the O-line to help fill in gaps. He may or may not be ready for this week, but is expected to play against Michigan at the latest. Roussos was playing about half the snaps on defense, so it is a significant sacrifice to move a player who is getting that much time, but as Coach said, there was a huge hole in our program in terms of O-line depth. He will play guard.
He said that the offensive team has been doing a good job adjusting to what we have on the O-line. Walker is playing better as is Chip Robinson.
He also talked about our reliance on walk ons this year. Jovon Leacock, who is playing at safety, was a JUCO walk on at WR. Eugene Cooper was also a walk-on.
One thing that is smart. We have all our lineup snap the ball in practice, just in case the Center goes down. So, when called on to snap, Torresso had already snapped it a lot.
I read elsewhere that Bojicic will be out 4-6 weeks.
Someone asked about recruiting. Coach said he expected us to recruit in the high teens in terms of numbers of players. He didn't say this, but we anticipate the high teens in terms of age too. Just a hunch.
So, that's the presser for this week.
