I get that he probably wasn't going to play but why "enter the portal" (aka quit the team) when the earliest you'd be eligible for D2 or whoever is willing to take him is next year? Who knows, if he stuck it out and improved he might have gotten on the field. We can't have that though, we have to make it as easy and efficient as possible to break commitments and abandon your teammates via the port hole.
I often don't understand what motivates these decisions, but we also never get to hear from the people who made the decision. Having said that, it is their life. They own the decisions and the consequences.
