Well, I don't think we expected to get too many of these, but there's a young man who has committed to play college football at Bowling Green. And he's graduating and he's going to be here in January.
His name is Jake Rogers and he's from Highland HS, which is in Medina south of Cleveland. He's a very productive player. He's run for 1,402 yards on 190 carries, which is 7.7 per carry. He also has 21 receptions. His strongest asset is getting into the end zone. He has 18 rushing touchdowns, 6 receiving touchdowns, a kickoff return TD and a punt return TD.
He's 5'9" and 170 pounds, so not a terrifically sized player. That's 3 inches taller and the same weight at Hargrove, for example.
Here's what Mike Gibbons, his Coach, says:
“He’s the greatest player I’ve ever coached,” Gibbons added. “He’s awesome. He might not be the biggest kid in the world, but you watch every one of our games and you’ll see that he’s the best player on the field and it’s not even close.”
This story says that the following about interest in Mr. Rogers. :)
[Rogers] is being looked at by Ohio State, Michigan State, Akron, Kent State, Bowling Green, Toledo and OhioHighland is an OHSAA Divison II school. They were 8-2 this year but did not qualify for the playoffs. If you follow Northwest Ohio football, Rogers had a big game in his junior year to knock Anthony Wayne out of the playoffs.
He's not listed on 247, so no star rating. He could be moved to the slot in college as well as being used as a kick returner.
Welcome to the Falcons, Jake.
