Huge Honor: Lewis AP All-American
Huge news for BG football. Roger Lewis--who led the nation in receiving yards--was named to the AP 3rd All-American team. This is huge. There are tons of All-American teams now, but this one is the Granddaddy of them all. If anything, it is the team of record.
The last Falcon to land on this All-American team was K Brian Leaver in 1994. According to BG's release, 24 Falcons have received All-American honors.
It is a very big moment for the program. Congratulations to Roger. Always a champion, always a Falcon. And always an All-American.
Lewis has been posting on twitter that he has some decisions to make, which he certainly does. He only played 2 years at BG, but because of his year in prep school he is eligible to declare for the NFL draft. I'd say that the continuity we are seeing in the offensive style as well as the apparent arrival of a new QB are good reasons for Lewis, but I also think fortune has favored those who strike when the iron is hot. If he came back, Lewis would have to equal this year's numbers and do better, and that's not going to be easy.
Love to have him back, but I would be surprised to see it. In the meantime, he had a historic season for our program.
