A Buffalo Look-Ahead
Buffalo picked up a huge win for themselves in their home finale last night with a victory over Miami. According to the Buffalo News, the key was a zone defense the Bulls have installed as a change of pace defense. Buffalo, like most MAC teams, plays virtually all man defense. Last night, they were down 10 in the first half, and came out of a timeout in a 2-3...here's what the evil genius had to say.
"They surprised me with their zone," said RedHawks coach Charlie Coles. "They went to their zone and boy that took us away from what we're doing. We don't have a good zone team because we don't have the two inside guys you need to work the high-low with. ... Key move by Reggie going zone. That was enough."
Now, as Falcon fans we can look at that and think, yeah, Miami looked pretty good against our 2-3 zone, but Buffalo, who never runs it, was able to lock them down. Anyway...its no secret that we aren't getting great defense right now, and this shows it as much as anything. In fairness, Buffalo did have the element of surprise on the evil genius, and that probably did make a difference.
Finally, here's what Byron Mullkey says about Saturday...
"We got to get one on the road now," Mulkey said. "That's all our minds are on. One at a time."
