Moosbrugger Fired
So after dangling in the wind for the past few weeks--since it "leaked" that BG had decided to part ways with Bob Moosbrugger--the decision has finally been made. At the time, he was up for a job at the University of Washington, but he did not get it. So, it's just him and his buy-out ($137,500).
I wrote a little bit about this when it was first announced. You can read it here along with a few comments. It's still how I feel. If you are curious how he feels, here is the letter he sent around the AD....see his letter below.
Stacy Kosciak, who is currently a deputy AD, will be the interim AD while a nationwide search is conducted. This will be very interesting. You have the lowest funded athletic department in the MAC and more than the minimum number of sports and the same expectations as everyone else. (UT, for example, has more money and is at the minimum). This is a tough assignment and I wonder what kind of interest it will draw. There are easier ways to go--on the other hand, if you can do it here, it will certainly position you for a better job.
Just had this sent to me...this is the letter that Bob Moosbrugger sent to the athletic department at BGSU: pic.twitter.com/P5Ognl2rK9

Hallelujah! Zero progress on facilities + poor major sports = failure as a D1 athletic director. The leaks from the staff, such as immediately sending his letter to Jordan Strack, are also troubling. His staff and their lack of focus were part of the problem. You look at the initiatives of the department and they appear to focus on everything except winning. That must change, and thank goodness people see it.
There are not many of these jobs in college athletics so there will be interest. With Fall sports starting up timing will be of the essence in bringing the next person onboard. We need our own version of what Danny White did for UB.
Some misguided locals are whining on Twitter about how good the minor sports were under him. Very provincial, small minded and ignorant to the realities of major college athletics. These sports are nice but have almost no interest outside the players and their families. Meanwhile, losing by 30 in football and 40 in basketball to Toledo are humiliating public failures that many people care about, and like myself, are embarrassed by.
Is the money issue as simple as BG just doesn't have the amount of private donations as the other schools in the MAC? Do the alumni of UT really hold that much more wealth than BG alum?
BillyP....hey so, if you check out the site below, the difference between BG and UT is actually institutional support
