Snowy Night in Kent Ends in Disaster

There's not much to say.  The Falcons walked onto the MAC Center floor, committed a rash of turnovers in the first few minutes, gave Kent a big lead early and then watched Kent blow out to a 17 point half time lead on the way to what ended up being a 17 point victory.  Coach Orr said in the postgame that you just can't play like that....we turned the ball over, we played outside in, we got away from what had been successful for us in the past few games, and, in a road game against a team that is ruthlessly able to win, the Flashes sliced us up.

The final game stats ended up being deceptively close.  The second half was 40-40, which is a positive for the Falcons, but you can't really tell how much of that is Kent playing differently with the big lead.  The evidence for that view would be that BG did fight back, get the lead to 10, only to see Kent just put the pedal back down and blow the lead out again.

I think the game's key stat is that Bowling Green committed 20 fouls and Kent committed 8.  Kent made 19 free throws, and Bowling Green only made 5.  Kent turned the ball over only 10 times, and got 1.27 points per possession.  I'm going to guess that very few teams win in D1 under those circumstances.

Anyway.  You could go on and on.  After a while it gets to be porn.  Here are the results.

A few things to note:

• Inside all that, A'uston Calhoun had another nice game, with 17/7 on 8 of 17 shooting. He is beginning to look like he might be able to have some consistency.
• We made 8 3s, which Coach said he is in favor of, but they need to come from the inside out.
• After making 12 turnovers over the first 10 minutes or so, BG only made 2 the remainder of the game.
• Scott Thomas had 11 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  
• As mentioned, BG did not quit and did get the game back to 10 points, but in reality was not in the game for the last 30 minutes.

I don't mean those to mitigate what happened, which is that Kent beat us like a drum.  But, it is just one game, and we get a chance Sunday to even it back out again.
