McElroy Leaving Falcons

BGSU and The Blade have announced that Danny McElroy has left the BG program.

McElroy came to BG with some high expectations.  He had once been a commit to UC, and brought the kind of height and length that we were lacking at the time.  He certainly showed flashes from time to time, started 13 games last year, had 15 points in 20 minutes in the season-ending loss to WMU, etc.  He had a nice mid-range jumper but rarely seemed to be able to get it off.   In the end, he averaged 5 points and 3 rebounds in (almost) 20 minutes last season, shot 44% and 51% from the line and had an offensive rating of 78.  He averaged 1.5 turnovers per game, turning the ball over on 25% of the possessions he used, which was the 17th worst in the MAC.

He was also suspended part of his freshman year.

I always had hope for him.  I thought he showed the ability to be a real playmaker and, at a minimum, a good role player for a team that relies on depth.  Obviously, everyone wishes him the best and thanks him for his contribution to the program.

It was obvious that someone was going in order to get the coach's son on the team - but I hated to see it be a contributor. Then again, there's usually more to any story.

Well the reports were Orr would be on a fee waiver so I didn't think it would be an issue. If not, it is certainly too bad.
