Remembering Tulsa
It is impossible to think about the game today without thinking about the last time BG and Tulsa played, on a January night in Mobile, Alabama, where the Golden Hurricane laid an epic and historic beat-down on the Falcons in the GMAC Bowl. In one sense, it was easy to forget because it was a game that did not count. On the other hand, it was so embarrassing and painful that it is not possible to forget.
I know some think Tulsa ran the score up. I don't really buy that. We didn't move the ball or get off the field...nothing was preventing us from stopping them. They kept their foot on the gas pedal, and we were standing by the side of the road waving.
It was the worst defeat in bowl history.
Of course, things are way different now. Hardly any of the players in today's game were even there that night. I don't think it impacts today's game. But, it can't help but be a reminder.
Here's the same story from:
The Tulsa perspective and this blog's perspective at the time, both game night and the next day.
And remember, if you think it was painful for you, think about this guy....
