Jinks Presser 2

There was a little bit of actual news in the Jinks presser.  He was asked about the offensive line and he said that there would be a couple changes on the offensive line.  It will be interesting to see which it is.  He said that BG had trouble with Miami having a different defensive front than we had been seeing and noted specifically that the issues were with the guards, so if I had to guess that's where you will see the changes.

There was no discussion of Lorenzo Taborn's injury.

I'm not sure I understand why we can't prepare our offensive line--which is supposed to be pretty good--for a different front.

Also, while there was considerable talk about difficulty with pass protection, Coach Jinks said he was drawing the conclusion that BG was going to need to be a pass-first team without anyone wondering if the offensive line was also poor at run blocking.

He said that BG has good scheme fits on defense, so he isn't as worried about the Georgia Tech run offense as you might think.

Anyway, that's pretty much it.  So it goes.

  1. Umm ok? Yes, Miami was putting 8 guys in the box with various stunts, rushes and blitz's. So, my question (s) is/are teachable moment? Was this being discussed on the sideline? Why leave an open backfield? Or why leave Clair back there? He got rolled a few times trying to block a charging linebacker. Tightends? If we are that short, quit keeping scholarship players under wraps for when? If they are needed now. I watched the line play, unless the lineman missed an assignment, which we would not know, most of the time they were locked onto someone. Linebacker delayrd rushed, DE stayed home LB rushed off the corners, or corners rushed while LBs covered short passes and flats. Can't put all that on the line. WhersWh the teaching and adjustments?

Jinks and BG have the lowest talent level in a D1. It will take 3 years for BG to rise even with a new coach. With Jinks it will never happen. The fans knew the O and D lines would be a fiasco in 18. Why was Jinks trying to sell the O line as a preseason positive? Can he not see what the casual fan could/can clearly see ( lines not strong- in fact very weak). Why does Jinks continue to foolishly sell aspects of this team as a strongsuit when we know it will not be? Jinks is clearly in over his head. These are the classic mistakes of someone who is deeply in over their head and cannot figure a path forward. He is flailing.... just last week he said WE WILL BE A RUNNING TEAM and now we might be a pass first team!!!! JEEZ... this is a ridiculous turnabout. In actuality this team is neither but it was never going to be a run 1st team with a highly questionable O line. SMH
