Sadness Accrues, Falcons Fade Again, Lose to Robert Morris

It was looking to be a pretty tough assignment.  Robert Morris is a really good team with an 80% record at home.  For 30 minutes BG was more than up to the challenge, leading by 2 with 9:27 left to play.

From that point home BG was outscored 24-11, neither a winning number for 10 minutes of basketball and especially when it's the last 10 minutes.

With that, BG falls to 1-3 and 0-3 in D1 games.

The biggest shame of it is that BG had a night when they were shooting the ball pretty well.  BG shot 49% for the game and made 8 treys at 38%, but that was wasted.  BG shot 42% in the second half and had 20 turnovers for the game along with being outscored 16-4 on free throws and that's how you lose the game.

In total BG had .94 points per possession, which is pretty poor especially when you shoot well and allowed RoMo 1.11, which is a defensive level BG never won at last year.  As you can see below, BG had a nominal shooting edge but was smoked in the other three phases of the game.

Note:  The Colonials were 16-20 from the line, while BG was 4-11.  BG committed 20 fouls to 13 for Robert Morris.

Individually, BG had good games from Calhoun and Crawford.  In fact, if you are looking for silver linings, it sounded they were packing it in on Calhoun big time, and he still shot 7-12 from the field and made both his free throws for 17 points with 5 rebounds, though he did turn the ball over 5 times.  Jordon Crawford had 16 points on 50% shooting overall and from 3.  He had 3 assists over 3 turnovers.

I give Coach Orr credit for taking a roll at some different rotations.  He gave Clarke 27 minutes, and he had 8 points, 2 assists and 4 turnovers, playing mostly on the floor at the same time as Crawford.  Cam Black started, played 28 minutes with 6 points and 5 rebounds.  Craig Sealey even made an extended appearence, with 17 minutes, 7 points and 4 rebounds.  James Erger made 2 treys, upping his career total to 7.

Richaun Holmes played only 1 minute.  I have no idea why that is, perhaps he was injured. Coach wasn't asked after the game.

We will have the preview for Alabama-Huntsville up in a couple of hours.  They are DII, but no push over.  BG will have its hands full with the Chargers.

In the meantime, if you want to look for threads out of this, I think if you can get Sealey and Clarke contributing consistently and keep Holmes involved, you're a better team than we have seen so far this year.  But, Sealey has only shown his ability in spurts through his whole career and Clarke still makes a lot of mistakes.  If those guys can produce, and Calhoun can have nights like he had tonight (with a couple fewer turnovers) than you at least get yourself competitive.
