Senior linebacker Dwayne Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio) had two tackles, a pass break up and an interception returned for a touchdown in the Falcons 24-0 win at UMass. Woods’ 48-yard interception return put Bowling Green up 21-0 late in the third quarter to secure the win. Woods and the entire Falcon defense held the Minutemen to just 118 total yards, including 33 [yards] passing on 34 attempts. The shutout was the Falcons first since 2004 and their first road shutout since 2001.
This is the fifth time this season the Falcons have earned MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honors. Senior Chris Jones has won the award three different times, while Ryland Ward earned his first career player of the week honor in the win versus Akron.
