Coach Clawson fires on our offensive line: Bad Excuses

One of the things I like about Coach Clawson is that he is pretty direct about what our team isn't doing right, which is a marked departure from his predecessor, who was more interested in prevarication and dissembling.  Anyway, in the Blade yesterday, he said this about our offensive line:
"We looked very undisciplined, and at times our offensive line was almost dysfunctional," he said following the Falcons' 21-13 win over Idaho. "We certainly have a lot of work to do to get ready for next week."
Like that? How about this?
"And it wasn't just one guy; if we would have fired all of the guys who had a procedure, we wouldn't have had anyone left to play."
When asked if there was a specific cause of the penalties, Clawson said, "I think there is a bunch of reasons, but they're just bad excuses.
Finally:
"There's just no reason to jump offsides or have procedure [penalties]. The greatest advantage you have on offense is that you know when the ball is being snapped. To some degree we gave that up and put ourselves in long-yardage situations."
John Wagner, The Blade's writer, goes on to note that Fahn Cooper is back at the top spot at LT, even after getting false starts and a personal foul and being pulled in the Idaho game.  BG has 6 playable lineman, 7 when Dominic Wharton is healthy, so we can't just pull everyone.  We gotta get better with these players or it isn't going to happen.

So, it is an opportunity for our guys.  They have the chance to perform on the biggest stage the Falcons have, which is the rivalry game.  Cooper has the benefit of watching the re-made line move the ball without him...anyway, when you don't succeed you know right where you stand and hopefully these guys respond with a performance that is good as that last one was "dysfunctional."
