BG picked up its second verbal for next year's recruiting class, based on a report in today's Sentinel.
His name is Richaun Holmes. He is a 6'8" post player from Lockport Township East HS in Illinois. He was a full qualifier but went to Moraine Valley Community College and will be eligible for 3 years when he gets to BG. According to hoopsjuco.com had had D1 offers from Florida A&M, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Chicago State. The site also refers to him as "long and bouncy" although I doubt if they do it to his face.
Here he contributes a tip-in dunk.
He appears to be a defensive specialist. I found a number of different references to him blocking shots, in the range of 7 or 8 in a game, which is a high school game. The Blade tells us he blocked 150 shots last year, which is a school record.
In our style, there is nothing wrong with having strong defense under the basket.
It seems odd that you would go to a community college and then sign with a D1 college before you even play your first game, but Holmes told the Blade's Falcon Fodder that he only had DII and III offers and wanted to hold out for a D1 offer.
He is our second bigger player in the glass. Spencer Parker was the first verbal, and he is 6'6" or 6'7" but plays 3 whereas I'd guess that Holmes projects to a 4 and the role Oglesby currently plays.
Welcome to the Falcons, Richaun.
