Setback at the Doyt....

BG lost to Wyoming today by 1 point in a game that was pretty poorly played on the Falcon side.  I just watched Coach Clawson's press conference, and he looked as upset as I have seen him in his time at BG.  He is normally pretty cool, but he said it was "embarrassing" that we can't make an extra point to tie a game and that we had "no business" being in the game after making six turnovers.

He also said that we practiced that extra kick block "to death" and then couldn't execute it during the game.  The center got "run over" and then the kick was probably low and that led to the block

All I can really say is this....it was obviously disappointing to battle all the way back and then not tie the game because of a blocked extra point.  However, it isn't as if we wasted a great performance....as mentioned, there were six turnovers, a player falling for a late game hard count o 4-1, a key personal foul, some drops, two red zone turnovers, etc, etc.  We played a very poor game, made too many mistakes, were hit and miss on offense over the course of the game....and then still had the chance to get to OT.

I know a lot of people, me included, thought we should go for 2 at the end.  Coach says that we were moving the ball, getting off the field, at home, and the better football team and he was confident we would win in OT.  Having said that, I would point out that overtime games often come down to field goals--not a Falcon strength--and we had all the momentum there at the end.  Obviously, it seems obvious when you know how it turned out, but I'm not so sure overtime would have been any better for us.

Still should make an extra point.

More tomorrow.
