ICSTR Week 2
The venerable International Center for Special Teams research hereby issues its report for week 2.
BG had a bad day on special teams, though probably not as bad as was described by Coach Clawson. It was, in fact, a game where BOTH teams were in the negative range. (This can happen because not everything is balanced...the ICSTR does not work in ledgers. For example, if a team kicks a kickoff out of bounds, they lose a point, but the receiving team does not get a +1 since they didn't do anything except watch the stupid ball roll out of bounds.
BG was -2...that includes (on the negative) allowing a kickoff to be returned to the 36, a kick out of bounds, another kick out of bounds, a 22 yard punt, allowing a kickoff returned to be returned to the 38, returning a kickoff to the 18, losing a fumbled punt, missing an extra point, and allowing a kickoff to be returned to the 36.
These plays were balanced by a blocked field goal, a punt inside the 20, a recovered fumbled kickoff and a 54 yard punt inside the 10.
Three of those are for multiple points, which is what allows that to counteract the larger number of lousy plays.
Anyway, clearly there is work to be done on special teams, though we note (and will note later this week in a little remembrance of Coach Brandon) that we are nowhere near hitting bottom.
