Falcon Men Win First....

The Falcons picked up their first win of the season over Ohio Dominican last night.  Certainly, it was a win they should have gotten.  Ohio Dominican is a new DII team that is expected to be last in their division in the GLIAC, so you'd like to think they'd lose to us.

And they did.  It wasn't always looking so pretty.  In fact, with 4:11 left in the first half, OD lead BG by one point.  From there, BG outscored them 54-27 and pocketed the comfortable win.

There isn't too much analysis to be done here.  In the end, the Falcons dominated the game, as they should have.

A couple of interesting notes, however.

First, Coach Orr did some shifting of the starting lineup.  He did not start Jakubowski or Dee Brown (our returning starters) and had Luke Kraus and Danny McElroy in the lineup instead.  He felt they both played well at Howard.  So, if you are looking ahead, I suspect that Jakubowski and Brown will continue to start and/or get significant minutes, but if you wonder who Coach Orr sees as the emerging talents in the next class, you can cite Kraus and McElroy, as well as Calhoun and Black, who have started once and twice, respectively.

For what it is worth, Jakubowski had as good a game as a guy can have.  5-5 from the field, 2-2 from 3, 8 assists, 3 steals, and no turnovers.  That's an offensive efficiency of 433, if you are into that sort of thing.

Several other people had nice games.  Cam Black had 10 rebounds and continued to show an athletic presence.  A'uston Calhoun continued to struggle shooting the ball, but shows flashes of ability.

So, with 1 win under their belt, the team now heads to Ann Arbor on Thursday to play UM.  It will be interesting to see if they can hold the Wolverines below the number of points the football team scored on them...
