From the BGSU Game notes, with my own smart-ass commentary attached.
- Bowling Green has not started 0-3 in the MAC since the 1990 team opened conference play at 0-3-1. (This is pretty amazing when you think about it. 20 years without starting 0-3 in the conference...including the really bleak later Blackney years).
- BGSU has not started 1-6 in a season since 2000. (That was a really bad year to be a Falcon fan, because we were losing and clearly heading in that direction. This year's team at least presents the hope that things will get better).
- The Falcons will be playing on a grass surface for the first time since the 2008 season opener at Pittsburgh on Heinz Field, a contest the Falcons won 27-17. (This is pretty amazing, too. I guess artificial turf really is taking over).
- Willie Geter is 13th all-time in rushing yards at BGSU with 1,844. He is less than 200 yards away from climbing into the top-10. (I'm even surprised at this, given the amount of time he has missed with injuries. He'd be stronger but much of the time he labored in an offense that was either not designed for him or behind a line that was not consistent. I wonder where he ranks if you add receiving yards).
In terms of the national rankings....
The Good:
- Kamar Jorden, T-4 in receptions per game.
- Kamar Jorden, 15th in receiving yards per game
- Dwayne Woods, T-4th in tackles
- Eugene Cooper, 20th in Punt returns.
The, uh, not-so-good:
- Rushing offense (118th)
- Total Offense (100th)
- Rushing Defense (119th)
- Scoring Defense (112th)
- Kickoff returns (108th)
- Sacks (114th)
- Tackles for Loss (116th)
Random thoughts....
The defensive reality probably isn't as bad as that looks, but it isn't very good.
Kickoff returns seemed like a strength early, but our returns seem shorter and we seem to be getting a lot of penalties. Our guys can still break it if they get the shot.
Not pressuring the QB is killing us.
