The Fordham Rams are coming to town tomorrow for our final game before the MAC season starts. On Sunday I'll take a look at what we have found out about our team over the past six weeks or so, but for now, let's look at the the Rams.
Simply put, it is hard to find much evidence that this is a very good team. They are 2-9 with an average deficit of 10 points against the RPI-rated 261st schedule in D1 hoops. Their RPI ranking is 329.....there are only 334 teams in D1 hoops. They have beaten New Hamphshire and Lafayette.
They score .92 points per possession and allow 1.06...oh, hell, there's no point in running through this point by point. If you click here you can see that they are in the 200s to 300s in most categories (that's their D1 rank) despite their soft schedule.
They do have a decent 3FG%, but they seem to play offense more like we do.
They are a very poor rebounding team....
So, if you are going to the game, they have three scorers....Jio Fontan, a freshmen, is their top scorer at about 12 a game. Mike Moore and Chris Bethel are also scoring in double figures. Bethel is also the best rebounder at 4.5 per game. Their best 3-shooter is the aptly named Trey Blue.
So, in general, this is a team we should beat. I don't want to put too fine a point on it, but we have been beating teams like this at home, and we should do it again. And then we can start looking to a wide-open MAC.
