Random unorganized notes

  • It seems like the emergence of R-FR Adrian Hodges might help us at receiver. On paper, it seems good, but we have periods of time when nobody can get open.
  • The Falcon Game notes make the point that Tyler has been doing better in the last two games than he did in the first three--which was also against much tougher competition.

First Three Games ............................................... Last Two
74-118 ........................................Passing .................................. 49-69
62.7....................................... Completion % ..............................71.0
208.0........................................yards/game................................292.0
2.............................................. Touchdowns...................................... 4
3..............................................Interceptions...................................... 0

  • His lowest completion percentage is on third down...no idea if that's normal, though I would guess it is, given the lack of an element of surprise.

Sheehan By The Down - Completion % - 2008
On First Down - 51 of 70 (73%)
On Second Down - 40 of 66 (60%)
On Third Down - 28 of 47 (59%)
On Fourth Down - 4 of 4 (100%) - All four resulting in first downs

  • So far, our sacks per game is less than it was last year for the whole season.
  • AT made his first start at RB last season against Akron. (That was the game after the OU debacle, when it was clear something had to get fixed). He had 104 yards on 12 carries.
  • The two deep is very constant.
  • Last year, it seemed like we got some key red zone stops. This year, in 16 attempts we have given up 14 TDs and 2 FGs. Ouch. I don't know if Red Zone success is like turnover margin--an early warning sign because it is partly luck and hard to replicate. But, we're not getting any red zone stops at all.
  • We have three runners averaging more than 4 yards per carry.
  • Freddie Barnes' passing efficiency is 305!!!!!
  • Briggs has gone a while without a sack.
  • This isn't like the old days, and I don't expect us to win this one easily. We're going to have to grind it out. We should feel good with a win, no matter how ugly it might be. This isn't about shock and awe...just figuring out how to win one way or the other.
