Falcon Nation Shocked....Studrawa to coach OLine at LSU.
In a stunning piece of news, our own Greg Studrawa is leaving to coach the line @ LSU. Greg is a BG grad, and had turned down other positions (namely, Central Florida), and you can't help but be happy for him. This is a much better opportunity, and I'm happy for him.
It is shocking news, anyway.
He got the OC job when Urban left and Brandon was promoted, and the offense had, objectively, a mixed record in his tenure. Certainly, as he called plays during the J5 and O4 bowl years, we were moving the ball at will, but with a deeply talented offensive set of offensive players. Starting with Omar's last year and then this year, the offense struggled and became increasingly risk adverse. Falcon fans felt he didn't trust AT, and, in fact, from time to time it was clear why that was.
My favorite Stud moment was at OU during Omar's first season as a starter. We were in the visitor's section, and down below the Falcons were heading into the locker room. Stud was all over Rob Warren, yelling at him that he was getting beat on "every stinking play." Funny thing was that here was this massive man and his voice was high and very shrill and he sounded like a 98 pound girl. Very funny.
My saddest moment was walking by the coach's booth after the epic OT game at the Doyt between BG and UT. He was alone, and he just looked so sad. Probably how I looked, too.
Best of luck to Stud. He's a good line coach, and I wish him all the best. I hope he likes Baton Rouge.
As for what's next, my uninformed speculation is that they will promote Mick McCall to coach QB and be OC, and hire a line coach. In some senses, you would love to go out and get some spread offense prodigy, but McCall is considered a pretty good coach and our tactic has clearly been to promote from within.
Time will tell.
UPDATE: Time HAS told. Blade reports McCall to be promoted.
