Bad news first, the hoopsters were absolutely destroyed, stem to stern, on the Convo in Athens. We got 4-23 in the first half, never got the game within 13 points, and took the tube. 1-1 in the MAC. Post-game, coach said we did nothing right....and I have no reason to doubt him.
On the football front, we signed four JUCO players who can start next Fall.
I really like the looks of two players who played in Texas at Trinity JC. One is top flight RB Eric Ransom...check this out.
...unanimous All-Conference selection in 2005 as well as a first-team All-American...led the nation in rushing in 2005 with 1,536 yards on 256 carries...recorded 2,356 yards on 413 rushes for his career...ranked third nationally and first in the state of Texas among all Junior College Running Backs by rivals.comSounds great, right? Nice get. He provides some depth with Chris Bullock, and probably points to Dan Macon riding the bench----or, moving back to defense.
I also like kicker Sinisa Vrvilo, also from Trinity. Check this out--sounds like the real deal.
...was a two-time first team all-conference selection...named first team All-American...helped the Cardinals to a SWJCFC conference and Pilgrim's Pride Bowl championships in 2005 when he was the nation's second-rated JC kicker hitting on 37 of 38 PATs and 14 FG's with a career-long of 55
We also signed Jerrson Davis, a 6'2, 210, Linebacker from Coffeyville CC. This is a real need position, and he has three years eligibility. His bio doesn't list many accomplishments at the JUCO level, so I can only assume we've seen something to suggest he can play at this level.
Finally, Punter Nick Iovinelli came from Harper College, where he averaged 36.6 yards per kick. No way to know if this means that Rojas has left school or if he's here for depth.
