Three Football Verbals

There's new recruiting news in the Falcon Nation, with three more reported verbal for the football program....

 The first is Braxton Todd.  He's a RB from Martinsburg, WV.  Coalfields.org says he is the top RB in the state of WV and a favorite to be the Defensive Player of the Year.  They also say he is the #2 player in the state.

To date, he is unranked on 247, with reporters offers from Navy, Air Force and Dartmouth, along with BG.

They list him as a LB, but he says he is a RB commit in his twitter profile.

Martinsburg is a highly successful program, winning the state title from 2016-2019 and were eliminated in 2020 due to COVID.

Scrolling through his feed, I see he was all-state at LB and all-conference 1st team at LB and 2nd team at RB.

The next verbal is Darius Lorfils, of Germantown, MD. He's a 6'2" and 175 pound CB from Germantown, MD. In addition to BG, he had offers from Army, Georgetown, Marshall, UMass and Navy. There might be some more flowing by in that video he made. There is not a lot of information out there on him, other than those offers.

The third new verbal is Owen Bainbridge, a QB and the second one in the 22 class for BG, who has pledged to bring in one QB a year. He's from Stow, OH and is 6'5" and 195 pounds.  As noted above, he had offers from Akron, UB, UT, EKU, Yale and Youngstown State, according to 247.

So, general rule of thumb is that when you do a post on recruiting, there's another verbal coming down the pike by about an hour.

And so it goes.

This young man is a 3-star WR, Jameel Gardner, who plays at Cass Tech in Detroit.  He's 6'1" and 170 pounds...and of course Cass Tech is a well-known and high-quality HS football program.  He had FBS offers from UT, CMU, WMU, Ball State and Kent, along with a couple other FCS offers (according to the Dzone).

Gardner established himself as a great route runner this season and hauled in 32 catches for 584 yards and 10 touchdowns, developing a special connection with sophomore quarterback Leeshaun Mumpfield.

 He was Honorable Mention and all-state and played basketball and ran track as well.

BG has another verbal commit, as you can see above.  His name is Canaan Williams, he's from Fort Washington, MD.  He plays at the National Christian Academy, a program started by a former NFL player who has placed a number of players into college football. 

His 247 shows him as a CB and his twitter lists him as an OLB.  He's listed as 6'2" and 180 pounds or so.

Beyond that, there's not a lot of stuff out there on him.

BG has a second verbal for the 2022 class and this one is a highly sought after QB from Baltimore, MD.  His name is John Griffith, he's 6'2" and 206 lbs and ranked as a 3-star recruit on 247.

According to 247, he had offers from Arizona, Boston College, Kentucky, LSU, UMass, UM, and Tennessee.

They rank him as the #86 QB in the US.

He was featured in an HBO Documentary called "The Cost of Winning."  You should definitely check out this story in the Baltimore Sun to get a look at this young man.  It is pretty remarkable.  Gives you an idea of the on-field and off-field person he is.

St. Frances is a top-flight program.  As in, one of the top in the country.  This Washington Post Magazine story tells it all...the success, the controversy, the challenges.

Note:  I saw somewhere in there that Griffith's HS Coach worked for Jim Harbaugh at UM for a season.

BG Football Adds DT Transfer

Coach Loeffler continues to strategically work the transfer wire to help rebuild the program in today's transfer-mad world.

This young man is Ali Saad, who is transferring after one year at Minnesota.  He's from Dearborn originally and was a 3-star recruit when he headed to Rowtheboatland.  He was widely recruited and actually visited Bowling Green in 2019.  247 ranked him the #25 recruit in Michigan and #76 in the nation at DT.

He did not appear in a game with the Gophers and he has four years of eligibility remaining.

He was named a 2019-20 KLAA All-Conference athlete.  He finished his career with 141 tackles and 22 tackles for loss and helped lead his team to the state playoffs his junior season by racking up more than 40 tackles and nine sacks.

He clearly lands in a position of tremendous need.  Maybe the biggest need on the field.  Certainly the defense (under new leadership) needs to get things oriented, even in the face of losing quality experienced players from an already stretched unit.
